Metagenomics

Recent years saw the development of methodology that combined metagenomics and second generation sequencing to enable the analysis of genomes of whole microbial communities, thus giving deep insight into the plethora of their enzymes.

The goal of the project is to determine new proteins of high practical importance for bioremediation and biotransformation. For this purpose we built a library of one hundred metagenomic DNA samples isolated from soil microorganisms living in environments highly contaminated with xenobiotics. Some of DNA samples were deep-sequenced and served as a source of genes coding new enzymes, which undergo high throughput expression and purification for further functional analysis.
